Brownies are tiny humanoids that stand only six inches in height. Their features are sprite-like, with thin faces and pointed ears. Being so small, they rely on their natural ability to hide (95%) to escape detection. They have night vision with a range of 100 feet.
Brownies can speak with all animals and usually know languages such as elf and sprite. A few (15%) speak the Juravian language. They are friendly with animals and sometimes use birds or mice as steeds.
Secretive by nature, brownies do not talk with travelers but watch them from a distance. They might help lost children by protecting them from harm or leading them home. Brownies enjoy wine, singing, and music.
Brownies are non-combative by nature. If attacked, they run away. If forced to fight, brownies use weapons (needles, sticks, or other small things) in melee combat.
Their weapons cause 1 point of damage, which is absorbed by armor first. The armor they wear is made from scraps of leather, fur, or animal hides. This armor has 2 armor points but does not offer any armor rating adjustments.
As creatures from the magical land of Fey, brownies have the following magical powers they can use once per day. They can heal one creature for 2d4 hit points. They can cure any one disease. They can neutralize any one poisoned wound.
Brownies are intelligent beings with selfish motives. They can be bargained with for aid, but only if their gains are worth more than their cost.
Brownies live in forests and marshes in temperate climates. They live in small clans. They hunt and gather food, which consists mainly of berries and roots. Their homes are often built in a hollow tree, fallen log, or sometimes under a farmer’s porch.
Male and female brownies have the same general characteristics, except a female’s heal spell restores 3d4 hit points. It is believed that brownies do not have offspring.
Brownies collect small items of interest, such as coins, rings, and small gems. Their lairs will contain such items.
