A giant hornet appears very similar to an ordinary hornet except that it is four feet long. It has a dull yellow to brown color and a long stinger that it uses to inflict damage. These insects can detect odors up to 100 feet and use this ability to hunt and track prey.

When engaged in melee combat, a giant hornet attacks with its stinger. This stinger causes 1d4 damage and injects the victim with poison. This poison causes anaphylactic shock unless the victim makes a successful saving throw vs. poison (-1). Those that fail the save die in 3d4 minutes unless cured through spells or alchemic poultice. A victim suffering from anaphylactic shock suffers a -5 AV penalty and has a -35% modifier to any skill attempts. Because the poison causes extreme difficulty breathing, skills that require voice (e.g., leadership and pagan magic) are unusable.

These giant insects live in forests or grasslands in temperate climates. They typically feed on leaves, tree sap, and small mammals but also attack humanoids. Giant hornets travel in groups of two to twelve. They make their nests in dead trees, underground, or rocky hollows. Because of their deadly venom, adventurers greatly fear these insects.
